Following the release of 1,500 beagles from Ridglan Farms, one of the nation’s largest breeders for laboratory testing and research, we at Puppie Love closely followed the story of these dogs and the rescue organizations stepping in to help them. We knew early on that we wanted to donate on behalf of these beagles. After connecting with groups involved in their care and placement, we were especially moved by the work being done by Dane County Humane Society (DCHS) in Madison, Wisconsin.
DCHS is an incredible nonprofit animal welfare organization that accepts animals in need regardless of age, health, or temperament, while also providing education, wildlife rehabilitation, foster support, pet food assistance, and so much more for their community. Together with partner shelters and rescue organizations, DCHS helped prepare 500 of the Ridglan beagles for their next chapter by providing veterinary care, vaccinations, medical treatment, behavioral support, and safe transfers to rescues and shelters across the country.
For many of these dogs, DCHS also became the place where they experienced simple things for the very first time - grass beneath their paws, fresh air, open space, and true loving care. While many of the beagles moved on to partner organizations and even some adoptive homes, about 50 remained with DCHS while they received additional medical care and support as they adjusted to life outside of a breeding facility. The shelter has worked closely with adopters to ensure these dogs are placed with families ready to give them the patience, understanding, and love they deserve.
Stories like this are exactly why Puppie Love exists. We are incredibly honored to support DCHS and the life-changing work they are doing for these beagles. Watching so many people come together to fight for dogs they may never meet has been a powerful reminder of what compassion, advocacy, and rescue can accomplish, and we are feeling hopeful for every single beagle finally getting the second chance they always deserved!
