This December, we are happy to announce that our next donation is going to Senior Dog Haven & Hospice (SDH&H) for a total of $5,230! Together for Giving Tuesday you raised an additional $230 to be included with this donation! SDH&H is a nonprofit 501c3 established in 2012 with a mission to rescue and re-home senior dogs (age 7+) and to offer hospice care to rescued senior dogs in their program.

SDH&H is committed to offering and supporting the end of life needs of their community’s pets. Believing all dogs should be given the opportunity to pass with dignity in a caring and supportive environment with the medical management needed to ensure a gentle, pain free passage. Their hospice fosters are a team of loving, experienced and caring families that work with veterinary specialists to ensure a high quality of life through medical treatment, good nutrition, behavioral health, and an enriching home environment. Elderly dogs come to SDH&H in many ways, with many different medical issues. They may be owner surrenders with an elderly family member unable to physically care for a terminal pet or a senior shelter stray with complex medical challenges. No matter the reason, SDH&H is always ready to jump in and give these grey muzzles extra snuggles.

The number of elderly dogs SDH&H rescues grows weekly. SDH&H often shares happy “Alumni” stories through their social media channels. One of these recent stories is about a 14yo Westie who found herself homeless after her owner suddenly passed away. She was blind, diabetic, and diagnosed with Cushings disease. That is how Karlye’s story began, but it is not how SDH&H allowed it to end. Karlye was lovingly placed into a special foster home for hospice dogs. After a full vet workup, she was diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome and a tumor on her adrenal gland. It was a big list for a very small pup; but SDH&H looked past those medical terms and to the amazing dog underneath. With lots of care, Karlye began flourishing in her foster home. She became more active and her medication list was been cut in half! Karlye now has an entire house full of people who love her, including three doggy siblings. She is truly living her best life.

SDH&H was so grateful to learn of the funds you raised for them, and we are grateful for the work they do to save dogs in their most tender years.
